28 Setsu-Getsu-Ka

One of Japan’s greatest lacquer artists, Tatsuo Kitamura, creates works that stand at the pinnacle of Japanese tradition, preserving the spirit and identity of Edo-period culture. The dial, crafted using the refined techniques of Saiei Makie and Somata Zaiku, requires several months of meticulous work. It incorporates precious materials such as gold dust, gold leaf, great green turban shell and New Zealand abalone shell.

Setsu-Getsu-Ka, meaning Snow, Moon and Flowers, is a classical Japanese theme celebrating the beauty of the seasons: winter snow, the autumn moon and spring blossoms. Here, Mount Fuji, crowned with snow, rises above enduring flowers, illuminated by moonlight and reflected upon the lake’s surface in a poetic interplay of light.
